A GREEN NEW DEAL

THIS ADDITION TO OUR CONSTITUTION AIMS TO FULFIL OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR MEMBERS THROUGH SUSTAINABLE & ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS METHODS BY UNDERTAKING THE STEPS BELOW.

OFFSETTING INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

CHRISTMAS TRIP & MAIN EVENT

'The Christmas Trip' and 'Main Event' should be carbon offset regardless of tour operator. This should include estimations for those members who select 'own transport' options.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

TRIP & TEAM MERCHANDISE

All of the club's merchandise, both trip and team, is to be sourced using sustainable methods by the beginning of the 2021/2022 season. The committee members organising merchandise should strive to reduce wastage through reasonable methods (i.e. no excessive over-ordering of items).

REDUCING & OFFSETTING CLUB TRAVEL

TRIPS, TRAINING & COMPETITIONS

All of the clubs transport (e.g. coaches to training, competitions and trips) should be carbon offset. The committee member organising the transport, to the best of their ability, should see the use of the most sustainable methods of travel (i.e. booking one minibus as opposed to multiple cars).

REDUCING WASTE

BRANDING & PROMOTION

Club branding is either offset or sourced using sustainable methods. The club should strive to reduce single-use promotional items and explore creative alternatives (i.e. bike seat covers that serve a secondary purpose)

PROMOTION & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

MEDIA CHANNELS, CHARITY PARTNERS & COMMUNITY EVENTS

Environmental issues, particularly those related to the mountain sport, are promoted through the club's media channels and charitable partners. Furthermore, these same channels should be used to promote and engage members with local upcycle events and green initiatives to support the reduction of their personal carbon footprint.

INFLUENCE & SELECTIVE SPONSORSHIP

HIGH ENVIRONMENT STANDARDS WITH OUR PARTNERS

The club considers the environmental responsibility of its sponsors when arranging the year's partners. Additionally, we will use our influence in the wider university and sporting community to encourage transformative change in attitudes towards sustainable practices.
